As you live, so shell you die

Ubqari Magazine - December 2012

An extract from weekly sermon (Sermons of spirituality and peace)

By Hazrat Hakeem Tariq Mehmood Sahib

How you die will be like how you used to live; Whatever you think of all the times, you will remember only that in the last moments.

The whole effort for a faith card

A person expressed his thoughts about how he understood a faithful death while he was going abroad. First, he was required to get some physical fitness certificate. It took him long to get the reports with a fulsome effort. Then he got his passport and ticket for an enormous amount of money. Then he was interviewed by the authorities and they scanned him and his luggage through various machines. Then they handed him a small piece of paper and said it was a boarding card and he was cleared to get boarded on the plane. He said that he thought suddenly that the small piece of paper was in fact the ultimate result of that months’ long struggle. Then he realised that likewise if my last words would be the kalimah of shahadah, then all the upcoming destinations would be open for me and that’s the ultimate achievement of a person’s life.

Every wish fled my heart

One day my respected Mohsin Ansari sahib said, ‘now all my wishes have fled from my heart except just one that my life finishes while I have stern faith.’ How those feelings will be produced in us? Let’s think about that. May Allah Almighty protect us! My Shaykh Khawaja Sayyed Muhammad Abdullah Hajvery رحمة الله عليه used to say,’ so many a people were such that they used to recite the kalimah throughout their life but what a pity that they couldn’t remember it in their very final moments and even their funeral was attended by people reciting kalimah but the dying ones couldn’t do it in their final breaths.

Like life, like death

Please remember that whatever we talk about throughout our lives, whatever we listen to, what we mention while in the morning/evening with every passing second and breath, those very words would come on our tongue in the final moments. Our mind would think about what our hearts are attached to.

A very dangerous thing

A person mentioned before me that he works as an auctioneer in the market and his family members complain that he was auctioneering while even during his sleep and utter such words. I replied that sleep is in fact a half death. If you are doing so during half death, then what would happen to you on full death if that was repeated during your final moments.

What should be done if such things happen?

Whatever we think of or talk about, the same thing would come out from our mouth in the last moments. One of my friends works as a surgeon and he says that when they give anaesthesia to the patients and even though the patient is unconscious for as long as six hours or so but they continue repeating their routine words in their unconsciousness.

One of our respected is Baba ji Daood Sb. Once he got a surgery. When he was given anaesthesia, he started reciting kalimah. After making him unconscious, one of the doctors expressed that even during unconsciousness, he was still reciting the kalimah and they wondered if he was unconscious. Then another doctor commented that he has sown the kalimah so deep down his mind that he would continue repeating that. Now whenever someone sees him they exclaim, Baba Daood are you still alive? Upon that he replies, it is my Allah who has continued pulling me around. When He willed, I would die.

Every being is destined to perish

Dear audience, the state of mind at the full death would be exactly like the state of mind at the full death. Everyone has to perish. Now it is worth considering that the end is with kalimah, good deeds and zeal to meet the Almighty with His fear. This is certain as the body is tuned to deteriorate one day.

Whatever Almighty does, is always right

This is Almighty’s Blessing that he lets the body perished and let it decomposed otherwise it would not be possible for us to bury our dead bodies as wherever they dug, they would find bodies there. Right since Hazrat Adam  عليه السلامto date, the earth has the same size. Like an estate agent once asked me that the land created would stay the same so hurry up to buy as much as you like. I replied, yes you are right but just imagine that if the bodies had not been decomposed to soil, then where we would get a single foot for burial. These miles long graveyard would even become unavailable for the fresh burials. The Makli graveyard in Thatta (Sindh) is having a span of miles. And even I have seen some ancient graves left open there. They were having huge tomb stones but from inside they were as empty as nothing was laid there ever. This is a natural system of Almighty. Had there been no death, then what would have become to the old people. Now we see millions of people in the west and even here who have been abandoned by their children to the old people houses. So just imagine if all the people had lived eternally then where we would have accommodated them. This is a Divine system setup by our Lord Almighty

Those who benefitted from the sermon

Respected Hakeem Sahib, Assalam-o-Alaikam,

My husband has been living in Kuwait for 10 years and my in-laws here treat me like a slave. I have got internet at home and one of my friend told me about Ubqari and your website (www.ubqari.org). Whenever I am quite tense, and stressed, I listen to your sermons and get relieved of the stress. Your sermons have revitalised my life and now I am living a peaceful life. I have started five times prayer and have started wearing veil as well and I emphasize others for that too. (Savera Abid, Loralai)
